Watercolor Backgrounds
Remember This
I really struggled with this lesson, mainly due to not having an adequate stencil. After a number of attempts and not being happy with the result, I reminded myself that this lesson was about learning to use your stencils with your watercolour. Irit didn't say it had to be the way she did it :-)
Realising I had to approach it differently if I was going to be happy and prepared to give it ago, now and in the future, I decided to lay my stencil on my watercolour paper, again A4 size, and spray it with water and then taking a sponge I tabbed the sponge into my watercolour paint and then dabbed that on to my watercolour paper.
The effect is much lighter than what I was going for, but I'm really pleased that you can recognise the feathers as feathers. I again joined two A4 pieces together and strategically placed some washi to join them. Even though I didn't follow exactly like Irit, I'm please with the result and am prepared to give my technique another go. If/when I invest in what I consider a better stencil, then I will try Irit's way.

Fiona this is beautiful! I think with technique based classes it's all about learning something and then making it your own. The stencil lesson is probably the one lesson that most depends on having the right product (a stencil with a large image and not a lot of details), so yes, it can get challenging to recreate the look I god. But I love how you thought about it and made it work for you. The background and the layout are just beautiful!
