Fundamentals of Exposure for Beginners

Here's a picture of my daughter, straight out of the camera, from a recent trip to the park. I have a Nikon D3000 and a 50mm 1.8 lens. I like the blurry background, and I wanted the emphasis on her face, so I used a shallow depth of field. I put her on a blanket under a tree for shade, so I could have as wide as possible aperture. I believe my aperture was right at 1.8, possibly 2. I was happy with this picture, but I would love any feedback.

@AnnStorey this is wonderful! love how that by using a shallow DOF you have set her off against the background! those precious baby blues are totally the focus here (as they should be!) :). furthermore, i love the composition...how you have divided the frame up between the blanket and the green grass. the colors work together so perfectly. a beautiful shot!
