Me: The Abridged Version
An A to Z All About Me 4-Week Album Workshop

Sometimes I wonder what makes scrapbookers avoid telling their own stories. I've heard the claims that journaling is hard and that these stories aren't worth telling -- and I don't believe either claim for a minute. To prove these ideas wrong, dear scrapbooking friends, is where Me: The Abridged Version comes in.

By focusing on specific but wholly unrelated random details from your own extraordinary life, I'm going to teach you that you're a lot better at writing than you think. We won't fret over flowery prose and excellent grammar. We'll work with run-on sentences. And fragments. And lists. And stuff that you might not think makes for perfect writing, but that most definitely WILL make for perfect story-telling.

In this four-week workshop, I'll be your guide to making the coolest album that captures a little essence of the person who puts so much time and care into documenting everyone else in her (or his) life. That person is you.

Will you do it? Will you come on this little journey and make this album with me?

  • It's not about design (though the design is cute and we will cover some fun digital stuff!).
  • It's not about photos (though you will get to choose 52 shots that best represent your various entries… shots you already have or shots you'll take).
  • It's not about product (though you will need an album, a bunch of cardstock, and your favorite patterned papers to accent the album with!).
  • But it IS about you. And when you're done, you'll have the coolest, most interesting snapshot of your life, right now, that you could ever imagine. A snapshot that only YOU are truly qualified to present. In the process, you'll get a handle on journaling the stories from your every day life and emerge a more confident storyteller.

I think you have stories just waiting to get out, and I want to help you tell them. See you in class!

NOTE:
This workshop was inspired by Amy Krouse Rosenthal's An Encyclopedia of My Ordinary Life. If you haven't read it, I absolutely URGE you to pick up a copy and get your wheels turning early!

WHAT YOU'LL BE MAKING:

A 28-page 8 1/2" x 11" album, using custom-designed digital templates, featuring entries from A to Z about you and your life, complete with photos you select or take to illustrate those entries.

CRITICAL NOTE: This album is an 8 1/2" x 11" sized project. I will not be providing digital templates in 12" x 12". I will, however, provide the measurements needed to create a 12" x 12" album in sketch form. But the templates will ONLY be available for the 8 1/2" x 11" album size.

If you're a 12" x 12" scrapbooker, please consider trying the 8 1/2" x 11" album size. You won't have to write as much to fill in the space.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • how to let go of preconceived notions of what constitutes good journaling.
  • how to create journaling blocks, photo masks and colorize custom-designed elements all using Photoshop Elements.

SYLLABUS:

  • Week One—Inspirational video presentation and beginning to write your entries and gather photos.
  • Week Two—Continue writing and beginning the digital instruction to build the album.
  • Week Three—Continue building the album, and creating the title page.
  • Week Four—Continue building the album, creating the sign off page, and sharing your work.

WHAT YOU'LL GET:

  • A 40-minute inspirational slide show/video presentation from Cathy to kick off the class.
  • Step-by-step video tutorials on how to use the templates and create your various bits of content.
  • Digital templates for Adobe Photoshop Elements/Adobe Photoshop for the journaling blocks, alpha blocks, title page elements and more; and Microsoft Word templates for the journaling blocks only. Cathy will also have fully layered .psd templates available for digital scrappers who want to do the whole album digitally.
  • Weekly color handouts, including clear step-by-step instructions for the digital components of this class.
  • Downloadable a to z tag book to use as a pre-class idea jotter for your album entries.
  • Supply list with live links to product resources.
  • Color handouts.
  • Student gallery for sharing your album pages.
