A Different Kind of Story
A Different Kind of Story
When I attend a birth, I am always aware that I will forever be part of the memory of one of the happiest days of their lives. This past summer, I became a part of the memory of one of the saddest days for this couple. We are very close now. And I think of her daughter, Stevie, often and wish it had been a different kind of story.

Kyndal, I was reading Desire to Inspire and I ran across a quote from Tracey that I think applies to you: "The simple question to ask yourself is, "What was I born to do?" I think you have found the answer and everyone you help is the better for it!

How blessed that couple was to have you with them through this pain. Heartbreaking. You were meant to do what you do. You are so compassionate. Thank you for sharing this with us, for trusting us with this. Hugs to you.

Yes, I'm sure I'm not alone when I think of all the joy you get to experience in your job, not thinking that there will also be times of great sorrow. This photo speaks volumes and I'm sure it means a lot to them. I think what you do is amazing (as are you) and that this family was blessed to have you there.

I can't find the words today, Kyndal. I am so grateful you were with these people to support them through this experience. And I am grateful you can put this here to talk it out loud to us. I have deep respect for the work you do each day.

I have been going back through the Picture Inspiration gallery and noticed the week I took this shot (week 25) and the next I didn't post. There were 4 births in those two weeks and I have processed quite a bit about this loss, but being able to post this here helps me tremendously. It is the kind of story I rarely experience and it is as important to this family as the joyful ones are to others. They have shared how much this photo means to them and I am so grateful for that. Needless to say, it was the most difficult photography I have ever done and the most difficult and important support I have ever given.

You have a very rewarding career, no doubt about it, but life has a way of keeping us humble, doesn't it? You're strong, Kyndal.

Kyndal, this is so heartbreaking, but I'm sure you were a comfort to them. Beautiful photo.
