My guess that the original color shot was very distracting -- this simplifies and makes the subject pop! love it

The more I look at this the more lines I see! The lines of the freeway overhead, the lines of the fence, even the curved line of the street sign. I really like this in b&w!

Such a cool use of normally wasted space! I agree with Linda...if it was in color there would be so much going on, but taking away the color really gives it a graphic appeal.

If this was in color, it would be so busy. This way, we focus on the sign. Neat!
