[ Duckienz ] Hello :D
[ Kelly K. ] Hey!
[ Duckienz ] Where are you from? I am from New Zealand
[ nonnysbooks ] Good morning everyone
[ Annette33 ] Good Morning!
[ adklife ] Morning!
[ Annette33 ] Can only stay for about 30, have a crop going on in my classroom in an hour. Dressed and ready to go, munch on my bowl of cereal.
[ Annette33 ] How is everyone doing with progress?
[ nonnysbooks ] I think I JUST figured out why the chat is hard to follow....new posts go to the top instead of the bottom....
[ nessa b. ] hello from chilly IL
[ nonnysbooks ] So its like trying to read a book one paragraph at a time from the bottom of the page to the top of the page
[ Meggie ] Hi everyone
[ Leora ] Hi all!
[ Becky C ] Hi Everyone
[ AmySJ ] Goodmorning all! I almost forgot our chat.
[ nessa b. ] Annette33 I know how you feel. I missed most of the last chat but the having the transcripts available afterwards helped
[ Sabine H ] good morning everyone...
[ Annette33 ] I have to work on my LC layout today
[ Sabine H ] me too ... haven't quite finished it.
[ nessa b. ] same here
[ janthos ] Good morning! It's beautiful here in GA--we got LOTS of snow {which like never happens!}
[ joybugger ] Good morning
[ Kitty ] Good morning from Los Angeles... no snow, but we've been getting lots of much needed rain.
[ Cherri :) ] Good Morning everyone
[ Kali ] Good morning from Canada.
[ AmySJ ] We had the most snow we've had since 2000- and it rarely happens here. . . it's all melting here. If we didnt want to go see a movie today and a hockey game tomorrow, we'd be very sad it's melting.
[ KimberlyAnn ] Good morning from South Dakota - chilly here, but thankfully not snowing.
[ Becky C ] is anyone from North Dakota? Hi kimberly
[ Tatty ] Good afternoon from a grey and overcast England
[ Annette33 ] Hello from SE New Mexico. Hoping it gets above 50 today.
[ pennyscraps ] Hi from Dallas!
[ LizL ] hi from austin, tx! no snow here!
[ AmySJ ] Hey Penny- how many inches did you get?
[ Candace Ann ] Isn't technology fantastic? We are talking to each other from around the WORLD!
[ AmySJ ] LOL and all over the state of Texas (sorry, inside joke for those in Texas)
[ KimberlyAnn ] That is really cool :)
[ pennyscraps ] We got 7 inches Amy
[ noell ] Hello from sunny Arizona. :)
[ kimmiejd ] good morning from spokane! we have no snow and are thankful for that since we were hit hard 2 years in a row!!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Noell I wish I was in AZ! All my family lives there! :)
[ Kitty ] Technology truly is amazing. We are so blessed to be living when we are.
[ AmySJ ] 5 inches here in Garrison- near Nacogdoches right of Hey 59 halfway between I-20 and Houston
[ noell ] What city, Kayla?
[ JustJo ] Hi Kayla and everyone else... Just Jo U.K.
[ annt ] Hi from Nashville, TN!
[ kimmiejd ] i am headed to arizona this afternoon and can't wait to see sun and 70 plus degrees!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Gilbert, AZ and my mom lives in Scottsdale. :)
[ Leora ] Snow in NC, too. Only about an inch this time...
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Good morning everyone!
[ nonnysbooks ] Welcome back Kayla
[ nessa b. ] you guys are better than the weather channel! :-)
[ pennyscraps ] Hello Digi Kayla!
[ KimberlyAnn ] Sounds fun, Kimmie - vacation?
[ joybugger ] Does anyone print photos with Shutterfly? I thought I'd give them a try but I'm having a lot of trouble with their uploader. It's uploading double and triple pics.
[ Leora ] Good morning Kayla! Thanks for all your help.
[ AprilFL ] Good morning! :)
[ pennyscraps ] Anyone print through iPhoto?
[ AmySJ ] Just excited to see snow. I made my first ever snowman yesterday (I don't remember making one as a kid) and first snow angel!
[ annt ] I love Shutterfly! And they send lots of opportunities for free shipping once you sign up.
[ kimmiejd ] yes, to the vacation!!! only 5 days but i'm out of the office!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Good to "see" you all here - especially coach April! :)
[ noell ] "Hope you enjoy your visit, Kimmie!<br />
<br />
Kayla, I'm in Mesa -- very close."
[ AprilFL ] I use shutterfly all the time, but I upload a folder that I've put onto my desktop. I've never had issues with doubles unless I had the doubles in that folder!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I have done books with iPhoto and love them - so simple and classic!
[ LizL ] i print iphoto &amp; like quality. easy and they are competitive in price.
[ Annette33 ] I use Winkflash
[ AprilFL ] LOL, You're crazy, Kayla! :)
[ AmySJ ] I use mpix for my pics. It's a little more expensive but they offer more of a pro quality service. Never tried shutterfly because I fell in love with mpix.
[ janthos ] "Snow is such a big deal for us here in teh south tht our atlanta new station has a &quot;weather upload gallery&quot; where people can share their pics of snow:-)<br />
http://www.11alive.com/life/community/gallerypublic.aspx?plckGalleryID=b9524ff4-1421-48a7-aef9-d766e2b83079"
[ nessa b. ] joybugger- I just had that same problem! I've used them before without any trouble tho and like their service
[ pennyscraps ] Liz do you know what kind of paper they print on?
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] My husband's family is in Mesa - Sanborne Gifts (a long time ago was run by his grandmother) - small world! :)
[ Steph in No Cal ] I print at scrapbookpictures.com and Costco.com.
[ noell ] Has anyone ever done a side-by-side comparison of their photos as tif's vs. jpeg?
[ joybugger ] OK, maybe it's just a temporary glitch.
[ annt ] I've tried Snapfish and the quality w/Shutterfly is better, I think; color is more true--skintone, etc.
[ janthos ] I just wish iPhoto let you choose matte finish, instead of just glossy
[ LizL ] @pennyscraps - not sure on paper.
[ pennyscraps ] Oh well that rules them out then b/c I only like matte. Thanks for that info.
[ AprilFL ] I had to call cs for shutterfly yesterday and got a great response. Maybe you could try that.
[ joybugger ] annt, that's what I have heard. Right now they have a good deal on prepaid prints, so I thought I'd give them a shot
[ AprilFL ] shuttefly prints on fuji paper
[ pennyscraps ] I love scrapbookpictures, too - and use them. iPhoto printing is just so easy I wondered....
[ KimberlyAnn ] I use Shutterfly for all my printing and have only had good experiences - including a cs experience for a late shipment.
[ janthos ] I have used scrapbookpictures.com--LOVE them! They even will individually color correct them for you (if you don't post edit like I do) it's part of the base price/print!
[ Becky C ] so are we going to print all our digi pics that we have on our computer for this class? I don't seem to get them printed, just keep adding to my pictures.
[ AmySJ ] I'm in the process of uploading and ordering some LO's from scrapbookpictures.com. . . Can't afford to catch up on printing those through mpix.
[ nessa b. ] I started with shutterfly b/c Archivers offered free prints through them. then I just stayed with them
[ joybugger ] Not all, Becky. We choose highlights and print those.
[ joybugger ] But Stacy has changed some things this year so I'm interested to hear what she has to say about printing.
[ pennyscraps ] {the refresh screen rate on this chat is much improved - thanks!!}
[ Cherri :) ] I use smugmug and love them
[ annt ] I'm getting stuck here: do I print pictures I don't think I'll scrap?
[ Maureen ] I have been using snapfish for years. One caution is if you don't order on a regular basis they will dump your stuff. I stay with them b/c of a crash, so some of my images are only there.
[ janthos ] "once when I was comparing online photo developers--I had the same images printed via walgreens (online &amp; in-store), shutterfly, snapfish, etc--then <br />
I could compare the quality b/c it was the SAME images--that's how I determined my fav pick"
[ Steph in No Cal ] I use smugmug for photo sharing, but scrapbookpictures.com and Costco.com for printing. Smugmug is a great site.
[ ajohnson ] KAYLA - Highlight folders question? Alum from last year so my digital system is pretty up to date, what do you suggest I do with older digital photos that are already printed/scraped but in my digital library - just leave them?
[ noell ] annt - no, just the ones you think you will.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Becky C - you will want to print your highlight folder images and put them in your storage binder unless you are digital and keep your photos on your computer until they are scrapped. :)
[ noell ] janthos, which developer did you like best after your comparison?
[ Kali ] I haven't printed photos in years - waiting to catch up.
[ noell ] Is Stacy coming on?
[ Maureen ] Kayla - those 0 rated images, what is the point of keeping them?
[ janthos ] I was surprised to find out the walgreens online was MUCH better than in-store, but my ultimate FAVORITE was scrapbookpictures.com
[ AprilFL ] those of you who haven't printed in years will want to set a budget and start printing - especially if you're mainly a traditional scrapbooker
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "KAYLA - Highlight folders question? Alum from last year so my digital system is pretty up to date, what do you suggest I do with older digital photos that are already printed/scraped but in my digital library - just leave them?<br />
ajohnson<br />
<br />
You could leave them or export them to cold storage - it is completely up to you and what works for your system. Personally I would keep my photos that are 2* and above for my digital category drawers but you could also just archive off whatever you knew you wouldn't be scrapbooking again."
[ pennyscraps ] I find it very hard to DELETE digi images from iPhoto....can I just hide them?
[ AprilFL ] I did two seasons each time I printed; one current and one past.
[ noell ] janthos-you said you tried shutterfly, too, right? What did you like about scrapbookpictures that was better than shutterfly?
[ AmySJ ] Part of the problem with instore at places like Walgreens and Walmart is that you are dependent on them cleaning their stuff etc. . Used to have great luck with our Walmart- staff and location changed to out of site- last prints from them were the LAST and drove me to online
[ nessa b. ] Kayla- thanks for all the info. you've provided on your page. W O W
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Maureen - great question. There are two arguments - one is that it takes too much time to delete. So keep them. The more i am living with my system, the more i am finding that I like to delete them. It is just personal preference. Also, those are the first thing that exports to cold storage. :)
[ janthos ] I lucked out last year with scrapbookpictures.com--in may they had 50% off if you ordered $100 or more, so I got 2 years of pics (about 1500 pics) for only $150
[ ajohnson ] KAYLA- Do you recommend going through them and staring the good ones?
[ Cherri :) ] Walgreens really bothered me. They insisted I needed a photo release for one of my own photos I printed for Christmas cards and would not give me the prints, even when I offered to show them my laptop and camera. I printed them to another place and moved on.
[ pennyscraps ] I started catching up last year. I get paid weekly so every Friday I spent $25 - that got me about 100 printed and delivered....
[ Kitty ] Does anyone know if scrapbookpictures.com hold onto your photos forever like Shutterfly or will they dump them if you are not actively printing?
[ Maureen ] Costco in store is awesome, my local CVS was so poor I wouldn't use the images, Walgreens was so-so.
[ AprilFL ] Good morning, Stacy!
[ stacy julian ] OH NO. I can't believe I'm so LATE.I'll skip my very lame excuse. How is everyone doing?
[ joybugger ] penny, you don't have to delete, but don't you ever have blurry or bad pics that you are just never going to use?
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] A Johnson - yes - if you rate your photos 1-3* then you would keep the images that are 2-3* in your digital category drawers. Or print them and store them in your traditional category drawers depending on your workflow!
[ janthos ] For me{as I recall, this was 1-2 yrs ago} the color quality just seemed better, the image was sharper, and for me, most importantly, it was a truer color
[ stacy julian ] I'm so glad some of you are still here chatting with Kayla and April -- thanks girls!!
[ Maureen ] Stacy - it is early your time.
[ stacy julian ] Good morning.
[ pennyscraps ] Yes and I AM ABLE to delete blurry's - just hard on &quot;similiar but not the best&quot; shots
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] You ar welcome. :)
[ nonnysbooks ] Good morning sleepy head &lt;grin&gt;
[ Leora ] Yes. We are doing just fine. Not to worry!
[ pennyscraps ] Amy makes great point on labs cleaning their stuff.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] you are welcome!
[ Jess F ] pennyscraps - i agree re:deleting photos in iphoto. i find i physically move my pic to the trash on the left hand tool bar
[ pennyscraps ] So Kayla what do we do with 0 stars?
[ AprilFL ] anytime, Stacy! You're welcome
[ janthos ] yes--scrapbookpictures keeps them for you, like an archive
[ joybugger ] Cherri, you could always type up your own photo release since you took the photo!
[ Maureen ] Kayla love hoe you were adding the question to your response, much easier to follow!
[ Maureen ] joybugger - LOL
[ stacy julian ] Addie woke me up at 5:00. I put her back to bed and laid back down (for just another half an hour ...) Why my iPhone was not by my bed, that's the question.
[ pennyscraps ] @janthos - thought sbkpix kept them only if your account was active
[ noell ] Stacy--I don't take as many pictures as most and I'm really good at whittling them down and scrabooking them quickly. If one year of photos doesn't even fill 1/2 a storage binder, is there any reason why I shouldn't put 2 or 3 years into one binder?
[ joybugger ] Penny, I understand. I actually keep all my photos and just have a separate folder for highlights. The longer I live with LOM the easier it is for me to delete but I still keep a lot.
[ Cherri :) ] I suppose, Joy, but it was annoying. :) And almost insulting that because a photo was good the person felt I couldn't have done it myself. Made me laugh later.
[ Candace Ann ] I wasn't a good listener and bought 3-up binders at Target but they don't have 3 rings. Im now realizing that there was a PURPOSE for having the removing pages.
[ stacy julian ] I'm happy to hear janthos is using scrapbookpictures. I adore that company.
[ Maureen ] Stacy - what if anything do you do with your non-highlights? Do you think they will ever be important?
[ stacy julian ] "Noell,<br />
Not at all -- there can be several years of photos in one binder. Just label it well, so you can find what you are looking for!"
[ janthos ] Kayla--I haven't had a chance to watch the new digi video yet, {so this may have alrady been covered} but I have alwasy starred my iPhotos, but using 5 stars as teh best, etc--is this gonna mess me up? I know yuo said previously that the 4 &amp; 5 stars will have their own purpose. Should I go back &amp; &quot;re-star&quot; these photos?
[ noell ] Great, thanks Stacy!
[ AmySJ ] I think at times it's helpful to remember we have pics we'll scrapbook but many us take some we won't. I delete as many as I can. Just some of my real keepers won't be in highlight folders- 'cause they're there for a different purpose.
[ pennyscraps ] Yes, Kayla - would there ever in your world be a 4 or 5 star?
[ stacy julian ] "Candance Ann,<br />
But now you have some great photo albums for photo album scrapbooking, right?"
[ pennyscraps ] Oh, Stacy - we are so out of box - don't go mentioning those PAS's yet! ;-) wink
[ janthos ] Penny, that may be the case about scrapbookpx-not sure, you can contact them though--they are a great run company--and if yuo ever want to &quot;test&quot; out their metallic finish~ oh my!~LOVE that! Did it for some of my sister's wedding pics
[ stacy julian ] "Maureen,<br />
Non highlights -- they stay on my computer, get backed up on my EHD. Things happen, life changes. I'm sure there are circumstances that could change the initial value I assign to a photo, but for me the non-highlights really tend to be lots of duplicates and sort of random extras that I take."
[ pennyscraps ] Oh I use them - it was just my understanding that an annual order kept you active.
[ nonnysbooks ] I've discovered one of my stumbling blocks this morning....my photos are not just my photos and memories but the photo record for my husband and my kids as well...I'm having a hard time letting go of the photos that the kids or my husband might want....Kids (read that as 30 and 33 yo).
[ Leora ] I think that's right about scrapbook pictures.com Annual order keeps you active.
[ diltsy ] I think this week's lesson has been a kick in the but for me to get my photos achived and backed up. I spent months scanning ALL of my mother's photos of us growing up. I'd cry and cry if I lost them or all of the ones I take on my own.
[ pennyscraps ] Nonny that is one reason I want to get earlier negatives to digial - so I can just someday give my boys images and not have any pressure....
[ pennyscraps ] digital - sorry
[ Annette33 ] When I purge, I let dh see the photos I am getting rid of, then I pick out the ones my kids would want.
[ pennyscraps ] One gal on 2 P's lost all of her pix 2 days ago....
[ noell ] I want to get all my negatives onto digital, too.
[ Leora ] Any sense of whether--for the predigital photos it is better to scan negatives or to scan prints?
[ stacy julian ] I still put too many (more than I can deal with) photos in my highlights folders. I'm no longer printing everything in my highlights folders. These are the photos that get uploaded online and archived onto storage keys. These are the photos that I view on our digital frames and share in some Shutterfly Share sites. Does that help clarify at all?
[ Candace Ann ] Stacy-Except that I already completed the SB assignment so now have to re-do everything in the correct style SB! ugh.
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] nonnysbooks, How about giving them to them in a simple 2 up album for safekeeping... My Mother in Law started doing this a few years back and we got great albums from her.
[ gingerathome ] just joined, so I apologize if this has already been asked. Question on binders vs. cold storage? What is the difference?
[ Becky C ] how do we get negatives digital?
[ pennyscraps ] oh scrapbookpictures.com will convert negatives to digital for you and upload them to your account and/or send you a cd rom
[ nessa b. ] I was wondering the same thing BeckyC- is that important?
[ stacy julian ] "Leora,<br />
On scanning -- negatives are better, simply because the emulsion/color on a print especially if its older is quite unstable. But, then with digital restoration and correction, I wonder? I'd asked the pros at scancafe.com"
[ nonnysbooks ] I was looking at Scancafe this week, ouch...that's going to have to be something we budget for, even if we only actually get half the negatives digitized we will be looking at over $500
[ Steph in No Cal ] For anyone who has used scancafe, did you send them random boxes of photos, or did you send them only the ones you knew you wanted to print/archive?
[ Barb in AK ] nonny, At 33 and 35, I'd say it's time to hand those leftover photos to the kids. You've probably got enough photos of your own to think about ;-) Hope they are all safely scrapped.
[ noell ] Leora, I was under the impression that it's better to work with negatives than prints (unless the neg's are ruined) but maybe someone knows better than me.
[ stacy julian ] Candace Ann -- are you alumni?
[ pennyscraps ] scancafe has you send them whatever you want - you pre-pay # of images
[ Candace Ann ] no
[ nonnysbooks ] I just started scrapping last year...so no they are not yet scrapped
[ pennyscraps ] and in my case i only sent scancafe what I knew I wanted
[ pennyscraps ] Hi Monica
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Yikes!! Just remembered the chat!! Hello everyone
[ Kali ] Can you use an home scanner to scan negatives?
[ Annette33 ] (Waving at Barb in AK)
[ angie w ] you only have to keep and pay for half the order you sent scancafe. So if you don't have time to sort now, you can sort once they scan the images. You preview them and then select what you want and then they send you the digital images.
[ Gloriak ] I feel like most of my questions are preschool level but here goes. If I print photos from an online place (snapfish, scrapbookpic.com etc) do I have to download stuff from them and then isn't that yet another place to organize and keep track of my pics?
[ stacy julian ] "Steph,<br />
I just sent Scancafe about 300 slides. I laid them out quickly on a light table and if I thought I might want them I sent them. I did toss LOTS, but I really only want to purchase about 150 to 200."
[ Leora ] Ok. thanks all. Anyone happen to know the price difference between scanning negs and scanning prints?
[ stacy julian ] "Monica,<br />
You're not the only one!"
[ janthos ] Kali-most home scanners have a type of adapter you can use to scan negatives
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Hi Penny :)
[ pennyscraps ] Negatives run about $3/per 24
[ joybugger ] OK, just placed my order at Shutterfly and I'm now good through 2009 except for our mission trip Dec 26-Jan 3. YAY!
[ AmySJ ] Anybody buy acrapbook albums at Hobby Lobby? What do you get? Going there today to look (actually going to a different one that I usually do 'cause I want to see what they have)
[ Steph in No Cal ] Thanks everyone, for the scancafe replies.
[ cropnmom ] Stacy, I know this is jumping ahead, but I tried LOM on my own (PF) and I think I did it backwards. My category drawers are already overflowing. I dated all the prints so putting (some of) them back in chrono wouldn't be a problem, as my binders are pretty anemic at this point.
[ nonnysbooks ] Scancafe's price for negatives and prints is the same...but with negatives you get 3000 dpi and with prints you get 600 dpi
[ pennyscraps ] Oh - and scrapbookpictures.com has a sale on right now on prints
[ janthos ] AMYSJ-i've gotten the we r memory keepers albums from HL when they are 50% off
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Hi Stacy :) So glad to have power back &amp; be back in the online world.
[ Barb in AK ] Back attcha, Annette---Happy croppin' today :-)
[ annt ] Hobby Lobby runs great specials...50% off on albums...I think they might be running that this week. They have the American Crafts albums! That's where I've gotten all of mine. :)
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] gloriak usually the only thing to download is the uploader, not an organizational system, just make sure to make an album there with the same name as the highlight forlder you are working on.
[ AmySJ ] Gotcha on the 50% thing- they are right now.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] AmySJ - I love Hobby Lobby &amp; have found some American Crafts Albums there. I even saw the pretty ones with patterns the other day :)
[ joybugger ] "Who does LOM in a small space?<br />
One of the things I'm struggling with is where to store my binders -- and I only have 8, not 15."
[ Annette33 ] Time to load my car, and head to a crop in my classroom.
[ stacy julian ] "Gloria,<br />
Correct me if I'm wrong for other services girls, but other than downloading an uploading tool that will facilitate faster uploads, you can upload to most services directly from your photo software. I use Shutterfly and iPhoto and I simply use the 'browse' button to find my completed highlights folder in iPhoto and then 'select all' and hit upload. Sometimes, the uploading takes quite a while. I often do my uploading before I go to bed."
[ pennyscraps ] Wow that is great to know Stacy. I have not uploaded to scrapbookpictures.com since getting my iMac....
[ gingerathome ] How do you keep up with the printed photos and digital photos you pulled out over the years and scrapbooked?
[ janthos ] I can't confirm about iPhoto b/c on my mac, I am still running on a G4, NO INTEL{so sad:-(} so some software doesn't play nicely with my Mac
[ joybugger ] I'm on a PC and don't really understand iPhoto. Hubby has a Mac and I couldn't help him with it.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] gingerathome - can you elaborate on your question?
[ pennyscraps ] I know sbkpix recently converted their uploader/server...so maybe that is good for me...
[ JustJo ] "I think I'll have to make a quick trip to the States to take advantage of all the back up facilities for prints, negatives and old photos. I use Snapfish here in the U.K. but not too sure where to get the other facilities reliably.<br />
JustJo (U.K.)"
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] "LOM In Small Place:<br />
I do, my living room has 2 small cases and that is where I put everything, so I am very concise, that is one of the reasons the the pioneer albums didn't work for me last year, so I use the WRMK for everything."
[ pennyscraps ] JustJo you can do it all through internet
[ janthos ] joybugger-if you play with iPhoto, you will really love it--when i first used mac, was a little weird, but it's true-once you go mac, you never go back{wink}
[ Gloriak ] So if I just name my album with the name of the folder I am wanting to get prints from I won't have to have an organizational system for them also? And I will most likely be able to change the name of the folder each time I order prints? I am using picassa for digital organization.
[ annt ] Yes, I export directly to Shutterfly from iPhoto too...just hold down command key and click through, then export straight there. Very easy.
[ stacy julian ] joybugger, this is a toughy, In my old (first Spokane) house where I first had several storage binders. They were on a shelf in our basement storage area. I finally bought a little cart on wheels that I would use to keep my binders on and some other supplies that I didn't use very often. It's worth cleaning out a closet for -- I think. I'd rather get creative with my linens and have my binders close at hand??
[ Maureen ] Scanning Negatives - for $100 or so dollars you can by a dedicated negative scanner. Cheaper than off site but you have to do the work yourself.
[ pennyscraps ] I agree. I purged an area of house-related stuff in our home office to give my SB's a new shelf all their own,...I don't even remember what used to live there!
[ Leora ] Stacy, I love your suggestion. Who needs a linen closet anyway?
[ gingerathome ] I've had random sets of digital photos printed and scrapbooked them but they are completely random. When sorting I'm getting some of those photos in my highlights so I feel like they are duplicates. Is that just the way it will have to be and then I can incorporate LOM moving forward?
[ pennyscraps ] Maureen I've heard the economical ones are not that great...
[ Steph in No Cal ] Please tell me if I need to establish highlight folders. I never go more than a month without ordering prints, so every photo I will ever want to scrapbook is already printed. I do sometimes go to to scrapbookpictures and reorder photos for various projects/gifts, and I can always find what I want quickly.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Gloriak - you've got it :) I don't pay too much attention to my organization on Walgreens (where i print) it really serves just as another back up. I should clean it up someday but I figure if I need it then I'll want to spend time organizing :)
[ janthos ] for small storage-I got some of those jetmac cubes @ michales (white) when they were 50% off and I set it up in alittle corner of my bedroom--I even got a cube that has 4 drawers &amp; use it as my category drawers--can't beat $15 a cube!
[ Maureen ] Joybugger - my place is small, 6 binders. I have a narrow bookcase next to my TV.
[ cropnmom ] LOM in small space: I have squatty shelves, so my storage binders are two-up, WRMK. I have a separate shelf (the only tall one) for my actual (also WRMK) album binders.
[ joybugger ] I'm thinking of asking DH to build me a little shelf under my desk. Otherwise he'll have to move all his Software Manuals. The binders are too tall for the shelf I have. I can shove the &quot;cold storage&quot; into a closet, but don't want to do that with my library binders.
[ Gloriak ] I saw/listened to the next lessons from Kayla and was wondering if I would be able to print out a transcript like the first one. I am so not computer literate and it is eaiser to go through her steps with something in front of me.
[ stacy julian ] "gingerathome,<br />
Yes, when you start to really take charge of your digital work flow there are going to be duplicates, but keep them there. LOM has a place for many of your duplicates. As long as you LOVE them, it's OK that they have been scrapbooked once. We'll get there."
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] Gloriak you make a new folder (or upload to the same folder if it is the same highlights folder) You are basically having a mirror of your highlights folders there, it is an archive. Let's say you have spring 02, you upload all the pictures, then you also want to upload summer 02, then you make a new album called summer 02 and upload pictures there... there's no limit as to how many pictures you can upload or how many albums.
[ joybugger ] Oh, those cubes might work if they are tall enough.
[ Maureen ] Steph Cal - I used to not keep track of highlights, and then my system crashed, and I wanted them back so I now keep track of my highlights.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] gingerathome - are these a ton of pictures? if not, and if cost isn't a huge hurdle i would print the ones you are not sure about, and not print the ones you are certain you scrapped IF there isn't another story to tell. You can always purge down the road.
[ janthos ] but I should say that the pioneer albums don't fit in it, they are on a bookshelf next to the cubes....
[ Gloriak ] MonicaM Thanks, I am so overwhelmed with the digital storage side of things. I just don't know much about the computer and am really afraid to lose all my photos by pushing the wrong button!
[ gingerathome ] Thanks Monica!
[ Steph in No Cal ] Maureen--thank you for your reply re: highlight folders.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Steph in No Cal: What do you do with the pictures that you've printed that you don't want to scrap? Do they live in photo albums?
[ stacy julian ] We can have transcripts made for Kayla's video tutorials. That's easy. Help me remember Kayla -- should have already done this!
[ Steph in No Cal ] MonicaMcNeill--Yes, they are either in my storage binders, category drawers, or cold storage.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] will do! :)
[ pennyscraps ] @joybugger - the Pioneer 3-ups will not fit into the Jetmax M's cubes
[ janthos ] the WRMK albums will fit in the jetmax cubes though {altho they do stick out a smidge} but these are 12x12 albums
[ Maureen ] Kayla &amp; Stacy - the digi stuff is such and awesome addition to LOM - great stuff, thanks so much!!!
[ pennyscraps ] AND I JUST HAVE TO SAY AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE ADDED EFFORT/TIME INFO ON THE DIGI SIDE!! Kudos to Kayla and to Stacy for adding this!!
[ stacy julian ] Thanks goes to Kayla. She has been very patient with me -- I'm getting there, slowly.
[ joybugger ] Thanks for the info Penny. I have a shelf for my albums but the binders are taller.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Gloriak - I'm not a big digital girl so I just implement what I need. Remember, all of Kayla's materials are bonus, for those who are ready to dabble in digital or a purely digital already :)
[ pennyscraps ] Stacy most of us are moving slowly with you...
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Stacy I would say you are very progressive. :)
[ AmySJ ] Yes! Love the Digi Stuff!
[ Leora ] Double ditto on the thanks to Kayla and for all the digi help!
[ pennyscraps ] I mean can we have a shout out for the gals who remember 8 track tapes? wink
[ joybugger ] Right there with ya Penny!
[ nonnysbooks ] rolls my eyes and whistles quietly
[ gingerathome ] Monica- how do you determine what to cold storage and put in catagory drawers? I'm still not getting that distinction. Is cold keepers but not scrapbook worthy? what goes in catagory drawers?
[ AmySJ ] Oh, I remember those- have since bought my favorite 8 Tracks on CD and now even that's out of date LOL
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] 8 track? I need to find a stock photo of one and write a story about that in a layout! ;)
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Steph in No Cal - hmmm sounds like you have your highlight folders in your storage binders, just not online or in a photo organization system, right?
[ pennyscraps ] I was blown away recently by some 20-somethings who ONLY HAVE DIGITAL images - no negatives in their world....amazing...
[ pennyscraps ] @KAYLA - well find a floppy disk for that same LO. wink
[ janthos ] "KAYLA-<br />
I have already starred my iPhoto photos in the past using 5 stars as the &quot;best&quot;-do I need to go back &amp; &quot;restar' these {I recall you saying something about using 4 &amp; 5 star ratings for future things"
[ Steph in No Cal ] MonicaMcNeill--I think that's correct. Is that okay?
[ AmySJ ] The big floppies, right?
[ joybugger ] BTW I use PC b/c I'm a math geek, and my math geekiness is what pays for my scrapping, so it's PC for me.
[ gingerathome ] Stacy and coaches: You ladies have done a phenomenal job with all of the materials to make this as &quot;painless&quot; as I believe it could be! Thanks a million!
[ diltsy ] what's a floppy disk? just kidding
[ AprilFL ] ginger, try not to get too far ahead. We're really not dealing with what needs to go into category drawers rigth now. Hang tight, okay?
[ gingerathome ] Stacy and coaches: You ladies have done a phenomenal job with all of the materials to make this as &quot;painless&quot; as I believe it could be! Thanks a million!
[ nonnysbooks ] 8 inch floppies....right?
[ Leora ] I have some kind of a computer disk--pre floppy, I don't even remember what it is called. Hopefully, there is nothing important on that thing...
[ cropnmom ] I have a drawer full of labeled negatives, and those are just from 1994-2001! oh well, at least they are labeled.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] gingerathome - i don't really make that distinction until my pictures have lived in my storage albums. I can post in more detail in the coaches forum for you :)
[ AmySJ ] Floppies were the bomb when they came out. I know there were punch cards at work. . . but we used tapes at home- all that rewinding and forwarding to find the &quot;file&quot; or program you wanted.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "I have already starred my iPhoto photos in the past using 5 stars as the &quot;best&quot;-do I need to go back &amp; &quot;restar' these {I recall you saying something about using 4 &amp; 5 star ratings for future things<br />
janthos<br />
<br />
I would restar - and i know that is a change - there is just so much I learned this summer that will make your future library much easier to sort through."
[ stacy julian ] You're welcome. It very gratifying to help people with memories. They are one of those things that have true value in this crazy world. Thanks for making the investment!
[ gingerathome ] April - Thanks! I guess I have been letting my OCD come through a little LOL!
[ Kitty ] Does anyone know of somewhere you can send the negatives to be scanned and archived even if you don't necessarily want to print any of them?
[ janthos ] Just want to say that I am really enjoying this class {even though i am already so behind!}
[ AmySJ ] 8 Tracks, Tapes, Floppies, CD's- the perfect illustration why you need to move with the times and not be a hold out.
[ Gloriak ] Mostly all I have done so far is upload from the camera to the computer really just so I could take more photos. Picassa just put everything chronologically and thats all I have right now. I always print a CD when I have prints made and I have a few things on a flash drive. I know there are duplicates all over the place and it seems like everyplace I have pictures requires a different organizational system and I am really getting stressed out about that. I keep telling myself baby steps. I really appreciate this class or I will when its done!:)
[ Leora ] janthos--You are NOT behind! You are ahead just by being here.
[ Steph in No Cal ] janthos--you are not the only one who is behind already. Me too!
[ janthos ] OK, thanks Kayla--just didn't want to do it if it wasn't completely necessary, but really won't be that hard, I'll just sort them by stars &amp; &quot;restar&quot;:-)
[ joybugger ] janthose there is no such thing as BEHIND in this class!
[ artiste ] janthos, I am behind too... had to go out of state for a funeral and now feeling overwhelmed and wanting desperately to catch up
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Janthos - you eat an elephant one bite at a time. :)
[ AprilFL ] gingerathome - completely okay. I know it's hard not to push forward when you know what's coming . . . I'm like Monica though - we live with them for a while first.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] gingerathome- re: cat drawers/cold storage I also don't know if we are there yet, I'll still give an overview on the forums but i will probably wait to share more detail until we get to that lesson :)
[ annt ] iPhoto question...the date on my camera was wrong and a couple batches of photos got put in the wrong place chronologically...ugh. Fixable?
[ stacy julian ] "Kitty,<br />
Totally -- scancafe.com and others. They will scan for usually somewhere around .29 and return everything to you on a gold-standard (or whatever) CD/DVD"
[ LizL ] @annt: highlight photo &amp; one of the pull down menus lets you adjust date/time.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "iPhoto question...the date on my camera was wrong and a couple batches of photos got put in the wrong place chronologically...ugh. Fixable?<br />
annt<br />
<br />
Yes - I believe we cover that in the tutorials this week - how to change the date of your images. :)"
[ stacy julian ] slidescanning.com is another service and I think Kodak might have one too.
[ janthos ] thanks guys--needed that smile:-)my whole family is getting over an AWFUL stomach bug!
[ annt ] Thanks, LizL!
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Steph in No Cal - I think so :) In the coaches forum I just posted a link to how I use PSE for my highlights &amp; other tagging. You'll see, I'm not very sophisticated :) Since I really work with my prints I don't spend a ton of time organizing on PSE. So, yes, I think you are A-OK :)
[ cropnmom ] Janthos, I just completed Lesson one last night. 2 snow days, 3 kids, 4 feet of snow in 5 days=no scrapping.
[ AprilFL ] hang in there janthos
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
today is Saturday. Get your chores down and get busy. You have plenty of time. Two weeks with lesson two and two weeks with lesson 3!"
[ nonnysbooks ] Even at .29 per image and only getting half the images, DH went into sticker shock on what its going to cost us to archive the negatives. I went into one of my crates and pulled out a stack of negatives (in their sleeves) 8 inches thick.
[ twynard ] Janthos and others - I feel like we have this great secret about LOM. I am slowly trying to introduce the concept to my other SB friends. I think it is a huge sigh of relief for all of us to be on this journey of learning how to really tell our own stories. Don't feel behind, feel empowered - change is the only constant!
[ JustJo ] This is a great chat today - thanks to all of you for answering so many of my questions without me needing to ask!
[ Steph in No Cal ] MonicaMcNeill--Whew--thank you. I do use PSE as well, and just went through and &quot;starred&quot; my images this week.
[ angeljade ] I'm really finding the process of organizing and purging my prints really therapeutic. :)
[ artiste ] Oh cool! TWO weeks on lesson 2?! Thanks Stacy! Feel better already. :-D
[ Maureen ] And don't forget next year - you can't really get this system in one pass - that is why if it is so cool that Stacy lets us come back.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Janthos :) No worries, that is why you get to come back as an alum next year. This is alot to take in/act on :)
[ pennyscraps ] Yes - the idea of the added week is pure grace!
[ noell ] Did I read that right? Lesson 2 will last two weeks?
[ stacy julian ] "annt,<br />
Find the photos that need a date change and then use the 'batch change' feature under 'Photo' on the menu bar -- Kayla will make this sound much easier than I do! But it's VERY easy."
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Gloriak - If you have more specific questions be sure to post on the coaches forum :) We'd love to help!!
[ janthos ] yeah, i think i &quot;feel&quot; behind is b/c I am also taking the pen tablet class @ jessica sprague &amp; i haven't had a chance to do all those assignments either...@ least i strated implementing this system last year after I got Stacy's book:-)
[ Candace Ann ] Oh no! I wanted to be an expert the first time around!
[ stacy julian ] twynard -- so true. Don't feel behind, feel empowered. love that.
[ Kali ] Truthfully I am having troubles with the non-chronological thinking but my way certainly isn't working so keeping an open mind. It usually takes me longer to get things!
[ AprilFL ] noell, that's right - two weeks on this lesson.
[ joybugger ] I'm seriously thinking of getting a scanner that can scan those negatives. I wouldn't worry about it except for the fact that those are my kids' baby pictures. (95 and 99) For now they are just stored away.
[ pennyscraps ] What I love about this purging thing is that it really makes me think about WHAT IS SCRAPWORTHY...and to identify things I want to put on my TO SCRAP list....
[ cropnmom ] May have missed it, but does anyone have a recommedation for a neg. scanner for purchase?
[ Maureen ] Kali - you don't have to think of it non-chronological you can just scrap Christmas 08 before Easter 07 because you feel like it.
[ Barb in AK ] Stacy, I just wanted to say that your coaches are doing a MARVELOUS job on the Forums. So personalized and I can ask and ask and ask again until they get it through my thick skull ;-)
[ janthos ] I have the scan converter, but honestly, if you can swing it financially, it's easier--I just don't have the time to properly scan my negatives....but that's just me
[ stacy julian ] Kali -- I think that the longer it takes to embrace something new, the better it sticks. Don't force this process. It will start to work for you in time.
[ annt ] Thanks, Stacy!
[ janthos ] I should'v ebeen more specific--it's easier to have SOMEONE ELSE scan for you, if you can afford it$
[ AmySJ ] For some of you looking at archiving options and want something simple Carbonite or Mozy might be something to look at.
[ artiste ] Just want to share that because of Lesson One &quot;Least Common Layout assignment, I loved the layout so much that I uploaded it to Costco and printed out my FIRST digital page, picked it up a few hours later, and inserted it into my &quot;new&quot; scrapbook (that I've had for years). This is HUGE for me! Woohoo!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Personally I love the Epson - but any scanner you get that is made to scan negatives specifically will do a great job. I will say that after scanning a few I would much rather send them off to a service. :) just my two cents. :)
[ Gloriak ] Really what I need is a very basic beginners class on picassa and photos that I am not afraid to lose. I am terrified of moving, labling, tagging, or anything to my photos and then not being able to find them. Blushing now, I actually thought about writing a brief description of each photo and writing down the folder name for reference.
[ MrsBecky ] My 2yo has so many different facial expressions and I feel I can't not include those in a scrapbook. does anyone else feel that way? It's been difficult to weed them out.
[ pennyscraps ] The first decade of both of my children are out on negatives...so I understand the desire to get them converted....
[ stacy julian ] "Barb in AK,<br />
I know. My coaches ROCK.<br />
Thanks for noticing."
[ Leora ] Sadly, I may have to go pick up a kiddo...Thanks all for the inspiration!
[ Kitty ] I am actually feeling a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders that I no longer have to be &quot;caught up.&quot; Thank you Stacy for all you do... and BTW, your voice is so cute and happy. I love listening to you.
[ janthos ] I have a canon scanner and LOVE it!
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Kali - i had that as well, but once class was done it felt so right. In fact, I'm struggling right now w/something b/c it deals with chronological :) Remind me to share.
[ AmySJ ] Carbonite and Mozy back-up your entire computer online(I think only one does external hard drives)- so if your highlights are your computer- you'd be covered. They can be set to do that automatically.
[ janthos ] "MrsBecky-<br />
maybe you could do a &quot;mini album&quot;? the many faces of ____"
[ artiste ] I need to add that this is the first layout I've done at all in YEARS. (Major case of feeling overwhelmed and scrapper's block).
[ pennyscraps ] Amy how much is mozy?
[ stacy julian ] "Gloria,<br />
Don't be afraid. Digital has changed everything about how we relate to and track our photos -- it has made it easier and more efficient and you will find your photos again. Have some faith and go for it."
[ janthos ] "GloriaK<br />
Jessicasprague.com offers basic photomanagment classes online--her classes are really great!"
[ MrsBecky ] janthos - thx! i didn't think of that yet. I will work on that
[ annt ] Anyone have the little gadget that scans your smaller photos by running it through? I don't know the name for it...I have a bigger scanner but the small one looks so convenient. Worth the investment?
[ JustJo ] Is it possible to have the comments by Stacy and the Coaches highlighted on the next transcript?
[ AprilFL ] MrsBecky - I actually used my storage binders to create a layout on the Many Faces of _______ - from just one SEASON! I'll share in the coaches gallery later
[ MrsBecky ] thanks aprilFL. i will look for it.
[ AmySJ ] I dont know how much either Mozy or Carbonite are. . . sadly, I can't use them because I'm on satellite internet and if I upload/download more than 250 MB a day, it goes down to dial-up. I hope one day DSL will be an option so I can use it.
[ stacy julian ] JustJo -- I can find out about bold text on the transcripts. Great question.
[ pennyscraps ] Good gravy, Amy - what part of Big D are you in? LOL!
[ AprilFL ] man, that's a bummer on the internet thing, AmySJ
[ AmySJ ] The advantage to backing up your entire computer and then getting it offsite or online is that you don't lose all your other stuff either!
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
that's what I want to hear. You are scrapbooking. CRAZY how easy it is to NOT do what you most want to do and signed up to do. Yay!!!!"
[ angie w ] i have mozy and its 4.95 a month or you can pay (I think) $50. a year up front.
[ Gloriak ] It's good to know that I don't have to come out of this 13 weeks with a perfectly organized and workable system. Of course I would love it if that would happen but wow no more pressure!
[ pennyscraps ] Amy, I agree - especially when you spend so much time organizing it all in iPhoto, etc.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] MrsBecky - I print them in my highlight folder, knowing that I won't necessarily scrap them all. The trick is to be OK with purging later once you get to that place :)I try not to make myself feel guilty for loving all my little guys faces :) Sometimes I do end up using them as a series on a page. I'll try to post an example in the coaches gallery.
[ AmySJ ] Not in the Big D- out in the middle of nowhere- Town 4 miles from here is only 817 people. Biggest towns 15 miles and 45 miles from here are only 30,000.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I just talked with guys at Mozy yesterday and learned some great things about them and the software they use to backup computers. I am really looking forward to learning more and will share what I learn here. :)
[ janthos ] anybody on mac use mobile me sync for backing up?
[ gingerathome ] If I archive to EHD, have on Picasa and save on Snapfish along with Picasa Web albums would you consider my images safe enough?
[ AprilFL ] thanks Kayla! I've been wanting to look into Mozy (I think they're the ones that will do EHDs too right?)
[ pennyscraps ] on Mac mobile me iDisk is only 20 mbs...
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Artiste - Congrats on scrapping again :)
[ pennyscraps ] or maybe 20 GBs - still not much space
[ janthos ] thanks penny-i wasn't sure--I basically use it for my website stuff--thx for the info!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I have found the MobileMe space is expensive compared to what I pay for space on an online backup service or Shutterfly which stores your photos for free. :)
[ artiste ] Thanks Stacy and Monica. :-D
[ pennyscraps ] Thanks Kayla - mozy info would be great
[ nonnysbooks ] "Since we get an extra week for this sorting and purging, and I think I'm just beginning to have it sink in...<br />
<br />
My older prints are sorted chrono and in photo albums, and I need to pick out the photos that are scrap worthy. Scrap worthy photos go in photo storage binders...and the ones in the photo albums are destined for &quot;another place&quot;. Is that where we are?"
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I think so - I was at an event so only had a few mins to talk with them.
[ Franci ] I use the time machine on the mac to back up my computer a couple times a day.
[ stacy julian ] "Gloria,<br />
I've been teaching this class for 5 years and my system isn't perfectly organized. Stuff changes too quickly for that --the good news is the basic principles work and if you can wrap your brain around a reasonable and sustainable digital work flow, that involves highlights and triage the rest will fall into place (you can do this!)"
[ Meggie ] I too will look forward to the digital transcripts. I am using picassa and loaded the first batch. The next time I sat down had forgotten everything. I am enjoying filling up the storage binder though.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Time Machine is wonderful - it saved my digital life this week!
[ Gloriak ] I am also lost on the backing up stuff. I only really have access to a Walmart and was wondering if I can get the key things there and will there be instructions on how to get things from the computer to the key? I have tried to find answers on the different boards and forums and stuff and I'm sure its there I just haven't stumbled across it yet!
[ pennyscraps ] Yea but isn't that time machine just another EHD that could fail....??
[ janthos ] Kayla, I agree mobile me is $$$-For me I had started my website that way, and it just became so easy to maintain it that way--using iWeb....so I've just kept it
[ stacy julian ] "Before we go Kayla,<br />
Give us just one word of wisdom from Seth. Please?"
[ Maureen ] Yes but if you have HD hopefully both won't fail, and if so that is what off site is for.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] janthos if it works for you, don't break it. :0)
[ AmySJ ] Time Machine does fail. . . I've read about the problems. You know those mac commercials that talk about how they don't have the problems of Windows- not so.
[ pennyscraps ] Who is Seth?
[ stacy julian ] And ... since I showed up late. I'll stick around for anyone that has questions they didn't get answered!
[ pennyscraps ] that is why mozy is more appealing to me than time machine - off site
[ AprilFL ] Kayla, you saw Seth yesterday? lucky!!
[ stacy julian ] Seth Godin (one of my mentors/heroes) spoke yesterday in SLC and Kayla was there!
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] GloriaK Wal Mart also has external HD's you can get 2 of them and rotate them off site, I think Stacy talked about someone that does that this week, that's how I do it, to me its more cost effective than smaller cards.
[ janthos ] I don't think I know who Seth is....
[ pennyscraps ] OH - then share words of wisdom!
[ MrsBecky ] does anyone ever do pages or mini albums without a lot of journaling? I feel like I need to write on each page but sometimes can't find the words.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Here is Seth's blog - he's in my reader :) http://sethgodin.typepad.com/
[ KimberlyAnn ] Stacy - I assume you print your photos 4x6? If you want a specific size for a layout, do you just go back and print that size at the time? Then what do you do with your 4x6 copy?
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "One of my favorite quotes from him yesterday: &quot;Anxiety is experiencing failure in advance.&quot; <br />
<br />
To apply that to LOM, as we all look at this huge project of organizing our images, we will probably start to feel anxiety about getting organized.<br />
<br />
The good news is that we all have a system and we aren't going to fail if we just keep moving along one step at a time. Let go of the anxiety and enjoy the process. :)"
[ AmySJ ] Ok, Signing off here. Gotta go get ready while the rest of snow melts. . . going to see Crazy Heart today!
[ pennyscraps ] An external hard drive is just an OUT OF THE PC BOX hard drive. It's an F drive instead of C. You just put your stuff in 'two drawers' C + F, vs. one &quot;drawer&quot; - C...
[ MonicaMcNeill ] MrsBecky - all the time :)
[ noell ] What a great quote from Godin, Kayla!
[ pennyscraps ] Mrs Becky use quizzes for journaling prompts
[ Maureen ] Have fun AmySJ!
[ stacy julian ] "Gloria,<br />
Have you purchased anything online? If you are comfortable with this. Go to Amazon and type Imakey into the search box. It will come up and it is the BEST price I've seen. Directions on the packaging. All you have to do is insert into a USB port and copy your folder onto it. Seriously, I call you and walk you through it if I need to!"
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Have fun Amy - I've heard great things :)
[ Kitty ] Final question for Stacy...Once you have your negatives scanned, could you in theory upload them to Shutterfly or scrapbookphotos for archiving? I feel a lot safer with that than the boxes of negatives.
[ Gloriak ] Thanks Brenda but I really don't even know what that means or entails. Counting the first chat we had this is my second ever live chat. I just feel so overwhelmed by everything. There is so much information on this site and I feel like I am missing things and whooy these chats go so fast and I can't keep up and I feel like such a child in what I know compared to everyone else.
[ Steph in No Cal ] Gosh, I love this class!!! Thank you Stacy, coaches, and everyone.
[ pennyscraps ] Oh Kayla, that IS RICH. Thanks - I'll check out his blogs. I love words.
[ Barb in AK ] Excellent quote!! I'm one who is ALWAYS fill with anxiety. I need to stop thinking &quot;failure&quot;.
[ pennyscraps ] Gloria, we were ALL there - beginners. ALL OF US WERE BORN BEFORE THE INTERNET. You can learn. You can do this. :-)
[ cropnmom ] GloriaK, this is my first chat, ever, and I'm on major overload, but it feels good, I think.
[ joybugger ] Is it &quot;I m a key&quot;?
[ janthos ] "thanks for all the info guys!<br />
I appreciate all you are doing and have done!"
[ MonicaMcNeill ] cropnmom- there will be a transcript where you can digest at you own pace :)
[ Kitty ] LaCie iamakey
[ artiste ] Gloriak: I am approaching this &quot;Take what I can and leave the rest.&quot; There is no way I can or will absorb everything in this course or these chats. But I am getting SOMETHING and what I'm getting is valuable.
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] GLORIAK: send me an e-mail I will go into detail... bkriger@sbcglobal.net
[ cropnmom ] MonicaMcNeill. I saw that, and believe me, I will be doing just that!
[ stacy julian ] "Kitty,<br />
Absolutely. Anything digital can be uploaded and archived. You could literally get your negatives scanned, returned to you on a disk and you could send the physical disk to Shutterfly. They will upload it and put it in your account for you. Then ... when you have time, you could sort through the images and organize and integrate them into your system. Make sense?"
[ JustJo ] Laughed out loud at the quote - not much hope for me then!
[ pennyscraps ] I have found that as I WORK/PURGE my anxiety and feeling overwhelmed dissipates. Also, printing out my iPhoto thing has given me a reference point of folders to check off....
[ MonicaMcNeill ] artiste - you've got it :) This is such a huge shift in paradigm that it perfectly normal for you to get bits at a time. No one needs to expect to come out as an expert after this class. It's better with time, I promise :)
[ stacy julian ] "GloriaK,<br />
That's the spirit. Take what you can and run with it!"
[ cropnmom ] Barb in AK. Off topic, with apologies. Have you ever been on the dMarie site?
[ pennyscraps ] So Stacy, ARE ALL OF YOUR photo images digital now - have you converted all film shots to digital images?
[ Candace Ann ] pennyscraps- what are you printing from ipohto?
[ Barb in AK ] I'm a dmarie faithful :-)
[ gingerathome ] "Kayla, When you publish to a web album in Picasa is it not stored out there on the www for you? So i can use it as another source of archiving? <br />
Thanks for all your great info!"
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Another Seth quote, &quot;Do Work That Matters&quot; I can't think of anything that matters more than getting our memories and photos in a place where we can enjoy them and scrapbooking. :)
[ cropnmom ] Barb: I'm Jerri G in CA. Circa 1999-2003.
[ stacy julian ] "pennyscraps, heavens no!<br />
I try and add one little bit every year. This years it's the slides from my LDS mission to Germany. If I can keep my system flowing with my growing family AND add little bits at a time, I'm beyond happy. Oh, and work in the industry too -- did I mention that?"
[ pennyscraps ] @candiceann - I did a SCREENSHOT of my iPhoto screens, scrolling down to get all of my little folders captured. Then, as I complete going through one, I put a little pencil check mark beside the screenshot that I printed out letter size. It has GIVEN ME
[ Barb in AK ] You'd better get back to dmarie and say HI--We always miss our oldies but goldies :-)
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I am not that familiar with Picasa web albums - if they store the full size JPEG with all your tags than it is another source of archiving. :)
[ stacy julian ] Thanks Kayla!
[ artiste ] Love that quote, Kayla. I'm pondering 'priorities' and how to fit scrapbooking time into my life.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Kayla - I absolutely agree :) My time is my most valuable resource I have &amp; I only spend it on what I love. The rest falls off I don't think twice about it.
[ cropnmom ] Barb. Forgot my screen name/password, but I'll try again today.
[ Kitty ] Thank you Stacy and Kayla and everyone else so much... I am so excited to start putting this all into place... my problem is that I'm loving it soooo much, last night my husband asked me if I remembered I had a husband.... Have a fabulous weekend everyone.
[ Sabine H ] quick question - when I post a question on one of the forums - how do I find my post and the answer again without having to scroll through everything? Sometimes I can't get back on for a day or two ... thanks.
[ Cherri :) ] I love Seth's books! I really changed my life after reading The Dip.
[ nessa b. ] cute idea pennyscraps
[ pennyscraps ] Stacy that is me. Trying to convert a little more all the time....my mom used that elephant quote on us all the time. The other one she used was, &quot;Rome wasn't built in a day!&quot; wink
[ joybugger ] Kitty, I warned my husband that LOM was starting again and I'd be busy...
[ Candace Ann ] I'm going to try that. Thanks, pennyscraps!
[ artiste ] Stacy, you are one of the most productive people I know. I need to shadow you for a week and learn your secrets. :-)
[ cropnmom ] Ditto on Sabine's question,please!
[ gingerathome ] Me to Kitty, was up till 3:30am reading and reading our lesson. My husband says I'm obsessed with LOM!
[ pennyscraps ] Kayla I agree it's good. Unfortunately that means it encompasses laundry. ha, ha.
[ stacy julian ] Everyone who has one, go kiss your husband and tell him how much you appreciate his patience and support. Happy Valentine's Day!
[ KimberlyAnn ] I want to come shadow Stacy too, I'm convinced she doesn't sleep :)
[ AprilFL ] sabine, if you post the original topic, go to the search box, type in your name and a then topic only. It will pull up all of your posts
[ nonnysbooks ] I need my husband's support, these are his memories I'm trying to capture too.
[ AprilFL ] if you want anything you've posted on, then you can do post and topic
[ joybugger ] I so totally agree. We went to breakfast this morning. When he invited me, I said, &quot;I have to be back by 9!&quot; Yes, he'll be feeling the love today.
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
I get up early (except for today!) and I know when to quit. I also make lots of lists that I tend to ignore. I'm getting older though and the productivity is waning."
[ AprilFL ] to help you find the thread - then go in and read.
[ cropnmom ] Thanks, AprilFL for the post info.
[ artiste ] KimberlyAnn, I don't sleep much either... but I'm still not very productive. Maybe Stacy DOES sleep so she has extra energy!
[ joybugger ] nonny, I'm lucky that my guy totally understands that. He wants me to do LOM b/c he loves the results.
[ AprilFL ] your welcome
[ stacy julian ] "Sabine,<br />
You can search your name on the forums and all of your posts will come up!"
[ Gloriak ] How long will I have access to all of the stuff in this classroom? After the 13 weeks are over can I come back and go more slowly through things?
[ kimmiejd ] getting up early will be easier once it gets lighter sooner!
[ pennyscraps ] One final iPHoto question - do we ever use the HIDE feature?
[ cropnmom ] I'm just thankful I'm an east coaster...I get three hours extra
[ noell ] Stacy also exercises and that is a major energy provider. It's what keeps me moving fast, for sure.
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] Forever access
[ MonicaMcNeill ] GloriaK you have forever access :) So come back anytime.
[ KimberlyAnn ] Artiste - that might be the key. I'll try to take a nap between photo sorting sessions today.
[ nonnysbooks ] My husband has faith the scrapbooks will be wonderful...its just I'm still at the beginning of the scrapbook road, with a lot of memories to capture.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I have never used the HIDE feature. But I have learned in life to never say never. :)
[ pennyscraps ] I am juggling LOM and Design Your Life and I work full-time.... But I LOVE how they are playing off one another right now!!!
[ Sabine H ] Thanks AprilFL and Stacy... that will help!
[ joybugger ] Gotta run and finish a couple things before I take my girl shopping for a dress for her FIRST dance! (And she won't let me take the camera, so I'll just have to store today in my heart.)
[ stacy julian ] "Gloria,<br />
BPS has recently implemented Forever Access. This classroom and everything in it will remain in your account forever!"
[ Cherri :) ] Joy -- Camera phone when she's not looking ;)
[ Gloriak ] Thanks so much. I am going to go and just breath for awhile and will get back to it this afternoon!
[ Barb in AK ] HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY everyone!
[ pennyscraps ] Don't take a nap - go for a walk! Better energy results!
[ MonicaMcNeill ] nonnysbooks - you scrapbooks will be wonderful because you are honoring your life :) To me, that's all that matters
[ cropnmom ] joybugger, good luck...sneak a pic with your phone!
[ pennyscraps ] joybugger take pix with phone!!
[ KimberlyAnn ] Stacy - I assume you print your photos 4x6? If you want a specific size for a layout, do you just go back and print that size at the time? Then what do you do with your 4x6 copy?
[ stacy julian ] "Noell,<br />
true. going jogging right after the chat. exercise so helps!"
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] Thanks Ladies, this was fun
[ joybugger ] LOL, my phone is OLD and doesn't take pics. I'll have to steal HERS.
[ gingerathome ] Just love you guys. Everyone here inspires me. Happy Valentines Day! Bye
[ artiste ] I exercise 2x/day and get up at 5:00 a.m. every day. I guess I'm on the right track. :-)
[ pennyscraps ] Stacy the forever access is WONDERFUL!! It totally frees up evaluating time constraints on taking a class! Thanks for making that investment in us in '09...
[ Meggie ] Thanks everyone for a great chat.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] KimberlyAnn - not Stacy but I print all 4x6 &amp; then some that already feel special I make enlargements. I worry about duplicates later when I'm revisiting my storage binders. More to come on that :)
[ cropnmom ] Well, ladies, I'm sorry I missed the first two chats and I will definitely be back. I'll have to take a speed reading course in the meantime, LOL.
[ Candace Ann ] THANKS a million, Stacy and other coaches!
[ stacy julian ] "KimberlyAnn<br />
I print the vast majority of pics in 4x6. Would rather have pictures waiting than not. I do print quite a few 5x7 and 8x10 when I order prints from a highlights folder. If I LOVE a picture and know that I want it big. I print it big -- even before I know what exactly I'm going to do with it. More on this coming soon!"
[ cropnmom ] Thank you to Stacy and your amazing coaches. I know I'm in the right place.
[ AprilFL ] I actually have gotten to the point where I only print 4x6 from shutterfly . . . i was doing 5x7 enlargements but I wasn't using 5x7 - they were more &quot;odd&quot; sizes
[ pennyscraps ] I just *LOVE* all the positivity out of all this!!!
[ Kali ] This has been great motivation - thanks.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] pennyscraps - me too :)
[ stacy julian ] Oh someone is going first-dance dress shopping. Good luck! Take your camera.
[ artiste ] Thanks everyone. I'm off to be productive!
[ nessa b. ] thanks for all the input everybody- already looking forward to next time!
[ noell ] SO glad to hear you print a lot of enlargements and that we'll be talking about it later. It's one of my biggest struggles with the system.
[ KimberlyAnn ] Thanks, everyone! Do you ever want photos smaller than 4x6? I sometimes use 3x4 or 2x3.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Off to finish the great playroom revamp to get ready for little bean to join us in 3.5 months. Have a wonderful weekend everyone &amp; lots of love tomorrow :)
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
I crash and burn too. I also nap on the weekends. Don't be too hard on yourself -- there is plenty that I don't do."
[ noell ] I do a lot of smaller ones, too. but at least those fit in the storage binders! :)
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Signing off - I have an appt with our yard - planning landscaping. :)
[ cropnmom ] Kimberly Ann. I use my epson photomate for wallet-sized pix. or I think shutter fly lets you print different wallets
[ Barb in AK ] I think my nickname could be &quot; The Great Re-Sizer&quot;. I use big and small on layouts :-) Never know what inspiration will pop into my mind ;-)
[ MonicaMcNeill ] KimberlyAnn - good thought!! If I want them smaller I find myself printing at home on a as needed basis.
[ stacy julian ] Kayla, April, Monica -- thank YOU so much for being here and being here on time!
[ AprilFL ] :) You're welcome! I'm off to play with my family - they just got home from haircuts!
[ KimberlyAnn ] Monica - that's how I envision printing smaller as well. Good to know that it works for someone :)
[ pennyscraps ] THANKS SO MUCH! LOVED THE PACE OF THIS AND THE INTERACTION and the screen refresh slowing down! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR TIME EVERY DAY, TOO! THIS IS BIG! *wink*
[ stacy julian ] Any more question for me?
[ AprilFL ] That's what I do as well, KimberlyAnn. I never print smaller and the best deal comes from the 4x6s
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Thanks Stacy but I was late :) I'll blame being out of power yesterday!! Have a great day everyone.
[ kimmiejd ] enjoy your run!!
[ cropnmom ] Yes, to Stacy. Hold on one sec, please...
[ KimberlyAnn ] Thanks, April.
[ Scrapbook_Girl ] Missed the chat, had to play in the snow with kids, rarely get snow in SC!
[ stacy julian ] "KimberlyAnn,<br />
I sometimes *rarely* order wallet sized photos. I have a great little Canon printer that sits next to my computer -- I use that for priting one-off and smaller prints on occasion."
[ cropnmom ] Should I go through my category drawers from my attempt to do LOM on my own to find more for my storage binders? I kind of jumped the gun, I guess.
[ cropnmom ] Last queston was for Stacy. Sorry.
[ pennyscraps ] Teenage boys waking up - bye all! Happy Heart Day!
[ KimberlyAnn ] I appreciate all the feedback! I'm looking foward to ordering 4x6 prints of my highlights and printing enlargements and smaller photos as needed on my photo printer.
[ stacy julian ] "cropnmom,<br />
Good question about category drawers. <br />
Don't do anything yet. <br />
It is easy to put too many photos into category drawers, but everything is fixable. We'll get there!"
[ Scrapbook_Girl ] Stacy - I've been rating &quot;one star&quot; to all of the photos I think I want to scrapbook - I ended up with 600+ for first quarter 2009, is that too many? (whittled down from a couple thousand)
[ cropnmom ] Stacy, Thanks so much. I can breathe now, lol. I'm off to your blog now!
[ stacy julian ] "And cropnmom,<br />
You didn't jump the gun, you should initiative -- that's a good thing!"
[ jennerwren ] Oh, Stacy, am I hopeless?! This is me 2nd try at this. I was inspired by your talks. Then I go in to start and turn around and walk away. Last time I filled 2 of the temp albums, but it is so overwhelming!
[ stacy julian ] "KimberlyAnn,<br />
Sounds like a wonderful printing plan!"
[ stacy julian ] "Scrap_Girl,<br />
Yes. I don't know anyone that can scrapbook that many photos in 3 months. BUT -- you did an excellent job of whittling and I bet if you walk away and them revisit these pictures one more time before printing you'll be able to let a few more go. The other option would be to go in and give the very BEST pics 2 or 3 stars and just print those. If you ever feel like your missing pictures (after you've printed the 2/3 stars) then you know where to find more. They will be in your highlights folder waiting."
[ stacy julian ] "jennerwren,<br />
why is it so overwhelming. Is there some part of the process that doesn't feel right, or just the sheer volumne of undone that feels hard?"
[ stacy julian ] "jennerwren,<br />
<br />
Are you scrapbooking?"
[ cropnmom ] Stacy, thanks in advance for the rest of this class. It was because of my drawers that I was able to easily find my pix for Lesson One...though I had them in my Just the two of Us section of my All About Us drawer.
[ jennerwren ] Probably volume. I have 30 years of pics. It's always hard for me to get away from looking at the big picture (sorry!). I even have trouble getting things on pages. I think it's a &quot;right&quot; thing, if that makes sense.
[ stacy julian ] "cropnmom,<br />
Yay! So glad you're here in class. I think the details will come together really nicely for you. There is so much about LOM that was hard to write about succinctly for a book."
[ Leora ] I agree. Thanks Stacy. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to FIND my photos. I have taken several BPS classes since LOM last year and it was wonderful to be able to find my pics. thanks for staying on this morning. I made it back in time...
[ Scrapbook_Girl ] I'm actually grateful that I didn't get farther with the class last year, as the new digital info is really helping me this year
[ cropnmom ] Adding to Leora's thanks for staying on. I was late getting back from a child-taxi trip.
[ stacy julian ] "jennerwren,<br />
makes total sense.<br />
I want you to go through your two storage binders that you have today and select photos and make two scrapbook pages. OK?<br />
That's all -- then go do something else fun. Prepare a Valentine treat or surprise for someone. Thirty years of photos can wait another day. You need to create some pages and come back Monday. Next week, I want you to just plug through sorting and purging 30 minutes every single day -- make yourself do it, like exercise. This is your assignment and I'll need you to report back. stacy@bigpicturescrapbooking.com<br />
Yes?"
[ stacy julian ] "Leora,<br />
You're welcome -- glad you're here. And you're welcome too Scrapbook_Girl. I have been trying to wrap my head around digital for a long time and it's finally coming together for me -- it's a great feeling."
[ stacy julian ] OK girls, I'm going to sign off.
[ Scrapbook_Girl ] instead of a timer, with digital, I work on one folder at a time. I purge, star, and keyword it, and then go do something else
[ Scrapbook_Girl ] THANK YOU FOR STAYING STACY, YOU ROCK
[ jennerwren ] My daughter always says &quot;just do 1 page, Mom!&quot; OK, I can do that. Then I'm going to take a small box of pics up to my cabin, where there's nothing else to do, and SORT! Thank you, Stacy. (Can you come over?) ;-)
[ Leora ] Stacy, I know there was some &quot;concern&quot; about your key suggestion. Just wanted to let you know that I got one and I love it! THANKS!
[ stacy julian ] "Thanks girls. <br />
I love the keys too.<br />
Have fun at the cabin.<br />
Love the idea of one folder at a time.<br />
<br />
Have a great Saturday.<br />
Can't come over -- we're going to a Korean festival with Addie!"
[ stacy julian ] Bye.
[ Leora ] Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!
