The more i am living with my system, the more i am finding that I like to delete them. It is just personal preference. Also, those are the first thing that exports to cold storage. :)

[ KaylaLamoreaux ] A Johnson - yes - if you rate your photos 1-3* then you would keep the images that are 2-3* in your digital category drawers. Or print them and store them in your traditional category drawers depending on your workflow!
[ janthos ] For me{as I recall, this was 1-2 yrs ago} the color quality just seemed better, the image was sharper, and for me, most importantly, it was a truer color

Correct me if I'm wrong for other services girls, but other than downloading an uploading tool that will facilitate faster uploads, you can upload to most services directly from your photo software. I use Shutterfly and iPhoto and I simply use the 'browse' button to find my completed highlights folder in iPhoto and then 'select all' and hit upload. Sometimes, the uploading takes quite a while. I often do my uploading before I go to bed."

[ annt ] Yes, I export directly to Shutterfly from iPhoto too...just hold down command key and click through, then export straight there. Very easy.
[ stacy julian ] joybugger, this is a toughy, In my old (first Spokane) house where I first had several storage binders. They were on a shelf in our basement storage area. I finally bought a little cart on wheels that I would use to keep my binders on and some other supplies that I didn't use very often. It's worth cleaning out a closet for -- I think. I'd rather get creative with my linens and have my binders close at hand??
[ Maureen ] Scanning Negatives - for $100 or so dollars you can by a dedicated negative scanner. Cheaper than off site but you have to do the work yourself.

When sorting I'm getting some of those photos in my highlights so I feel like they are duplicates. Is that just the way it will have to be and then I can incorporate LOM moving forward?

[ Steph in No Cal ] Please tell me if I need to establish highlight folders. I never go more than a month without ordering prints, so every photo I will ever want to scrapbook is already printed. I do sometimes go to to scrapbookpictures and reorder photos for various projects/gifts, and I can always find what I want quickly.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] Gloriak - you've got it :) I don't pay too much attention to my organization on Walgreens (where i print) it really serves just as another back up. I should clean it up someday but I figure if I need it then I'll want to spend time organizing :)
[ janthos ] for small storage-I got some of those jetmac cubes @ michales (white) when they were 50% off and I set it up in alittle corner of my bedroom--I even got a cube that has 4 drawers & use it as my category drawers--can't beat $15 a cube!

[ cropnmom ] LOM in small space: I have squatty shelves, so my storage binders are two-up, WRMK. I have a separate shelf (the only tall one) for my actual (also WRMK) album binders.
[ joybugger ] I'm thinking of asking DH to build me a little shelf under my desk. Otherwise he'll have to move all his Software Manuals. The binders are too tall for the shelf I have. I can shove the "cold storage" into a closet, but don't want to do that with my library binders.

Yes, when you start to really take charge of your digital work flow there are going to be duplicates, but keep them there. LOM has a place for many of your duplicates. As long as you LOVE them, it's OK that they have been scrapbooked once. We'll get there."
[ Brenda in Sunny So Cal ] Gloriak you make a new folder (or upload to the same folder if it is the same highlights folder) You are basically having a mirror of your highlights folders there, it is an archive. Let's say you have spring 02, you upload all the pictures, then you also want to upload summer 02, then you make a new album called summer 02 and upload pictures there... there's no limit as to how many pictures you can upload or how many albums.

[ Maureen ] Steph Cal - I used to not keep track of highlights, and then my system crashed, and I wanted them back so I now keep track of my highlights.
[ MonicaMcNeill ] gingerathome - are these a ton of pictures? if not, and if cost isn't a huge hurdle i would print the ones you are not sure about, and not print the ones you are certain you scrapped IF there isn't another story to tell. You can always purge down the road.

Picassa just put everything chronologically and thats all I have right now. I always print a CD when I have prints made and I have a few things on a flash drive. I know there are duplicates all over the place and it seems like everyplace I have pictures requires a different organizational system and I am really getting stressed out about that. I keep telling myself baby steps. I really appreciate this class or I will when its done!:)

This is HUGE for me! Woohoo!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Personally I love the Epson - but any scanner you get that is made to scan negatives specifically will do a great job. I will say that after scanning a few I would much rather send them off to a service. :) just my two cents. :)

I am terrified of moving, labling, tagging, or anything to my photos and then not being able to find them. Blushing now, I actually thought about writing a brief description of each photo and writing down the folder name for reference.

My older prints are sorted chrono and in photo albums, and I need to pick out the photos that are scrap worthy. Scrap worthy photos go in photo storage binders...and the ones in the photo albums are destined for "another place". Is that where we are?"

The other option would be to go in and give the very BEST pics 2 or 3 stars and just print those. If you ever feel like your missing pictures (after you've printed the 2/3 stars) then you know where to find more. They will be in your highlights folder waiting."
