Welcome to Gift Wrap week here at Big Picture, we are bringing the fun festivities of the holiday to our blog.
Today’s gift wrap tutorial shows how to upcycle boxes into gift bags.
Supplies:
assortment of smallsized boxes
fabric
adhesive
foam brush
hot glue
fabric scraps
gift toppers
trim andembellishments to decorate bag
(full images are below)
Steps:
deconstruct boxes by gently separating all sides
snip off the tabs for the side that is going to be open
place unfolded box on top of fabric
trace around the entire box, excluding the tab along the side, adding approximately 1”to the height (don’t worry about precisely tracing along the bottom we can add fabric after)
cut out fabric
completely cover inside of box with adhesive (if you cover the side with the graphics then it may show through your fabric)
adhere fabric
add adhesive over the top of the fabric , smoothing out the air bubbles as you go
place on non-stick surface and add weighted object to flatten out box as it dries
let dry for approximately 30 minutes (depending on your area and temperature)
add second coat of adhesive if needed to secure fabric to box
let dry 30 minutes
when box is still damp crease the folds making sure that the fabric is completely adhered to the box, adding extra adhesive if needed
glue the blank tab to the inside of the box with hot glue
fold down the 1” overhang along top of box adhering as your go (I used hot glue)
glue bottom tabs together (not fabric)
fold bottom fabric as if you are wrapping a present and adhere with hot glue
add extra fabric or cardstock to bottom if needed for complete coverage
let box dry completely, if needed place cans or other heavy objects inside box to weigh down the bottom while drying (if needed, use clothespins as clamps during drying )

I love recycling anything. Great re-use for cracker & other cardboard boxes!

I love this! I will definitely try this with my kids too. I have loads of fabric scraps left over from projects so this is a great way to use them up! We might try this idea with wrapping paper too. Thanks for the great idea (and pix are excellent too)!
