What, that is crazy talk! Anyway, I am super excited to be working with a local lifestyle show, Studio 5, and bringing the Shoebox Challenge to photo keepers everywhere.
What is Project Shoebox?
Project Shoebox is the incentive you need to empty that shoebox of old photos. Heirloom photos to forgotten prints, everyone has photos to reclaim and rediscover. The Project Shoebox community, curated and hosted by Studio 5 contributor Wendy Smedley (that is me), is a safe place to learn how to archive and share photos, collect old stories, and organize treasured images in a safe place.
The Project Shoebox challenge is simple. Just scan one old photo. Then share it. Collect stories. And feel the satisfaction. You will have created a memory with a memory.
Wednesday, 1/31/, I will launch the challenge and share a handful of photos + scanning tips. You can participate by streaming the show live here, runs from 11:00 am-12:00 pm MST, or you can watch an archived version later in the day. Either way think about joining in and scanning your own photos.
In the meantime, below are a few favorite photos I rediscovered when scanning old photos from the 90's of my now 17 year-old twins, Jake and Nate.
I would frequently find Jake and Nate in the same bed together, funny thing is the blanket is Nathan's and Jake is the one who is using it.
Here I am with Jake and Nate at the Oakland Zoo soomtime in the late 90's. Wow, hard to believe I used to carry the two of them around all the time.
So what photos do you want to scan?

I spent last week traipsing the aisles and trend-spotting at the Craft and Hobby Association trade show, where craft manufacturers show their latest products to retailers and industry professionals. Nothing inspires me like brand new product! Here’s a small sampling of new products that revved my creative engine.
Favorite product line:
It’s a tie between Allison Kreft’s Composition and Color collection for Webster’s Pages and Glitz’s Color Me Happy collection. I love the colors and motifs in both of these lines, and pretty much every single accouterment. A collection that I would consider buying in its entirety is rare, but these both qualify. And at the tippy top of my wish list are those nifty little Glitz Roller Doodle stamps.
Instagram-inspired products like mini frames, hashtags, geotag symbols, and filter-like overlays.
I think we’ve only seen the beginning of tech-inspired pop culture products, as well as things that help us scrapbook those popular square Instagram pictures. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this category!
Top 5 wish list products (aside from the previously mentioned items, of course!):
1. This set of goodies from the My Mind’s Eye Collectable collection by Jen Allyson:
2. These Studio Calico adhesive chipboard stars and arrows:
3. These cute photo corners by Teresa Collins:
4. Adorable Chic Tags elements, like these labels. They can be used as is, or cut apart into separate arrow and banner pieces:
5. This Maya Road chipboard Polaroid mini album:

All human beings, across time, have gathered around stories and it is these stories that are remembered and retold and refined and retold some more, eventually being passed down as that thing which defines who we are and what we believe. There are cultural stories, faith stories, political stories, food stories, war stories, travel and discovery stories—there are epic stories of human achievement, heart-breaking stories of personal tragedy and life-changing stories of forgiveness. By far the most influential and powerful stories (think about this) are those that you tell yourself about your worth, your potential, your frailty, your ability and your future.
This class/journey/adventure, called Twelve. was conceived over a year ago and as the bits and pieces came together and I began to wrap my brain around the magnitude of what I wanted to do, I wasn’t sure I could actually pull it off. Honestly, I’m still not sure —but I are very close to the end and it has been an incredible experience to say the least.
I invite you to join me and hundreds of other women as we celebrate our hobby and do our best to memoralize highlights from this year as we share our stories in 12/12/12 at Home. Their is still time to sign up here.
Thank you to our partners for taking a leap of faith with us as we host our first-ever hybrid event! Please support their efforts by visiting their websites and lookinf for their products when you shop.

For those of you ithat participated in the 2012 Big Idea Festival and read my challenge you will be familar with my appreciation of Ted Talks. The talks I am sharing below are different then the ones I shared during the festival so skip on down to watch my latest Ted Talks worth your time.
below is an excerpt from my challenge
Oddly enough nothing makes me happier than sharing something and learning that it enriched that person's life. You know how you feel when you discover an awesome new restaurant and you share the news, then you find out that your friend went based on your recommendation and they loved it too? That is the feeling that I like. To be someone that shares, you also need to be an active learner, in pursuit of knowledge. How do you seek out learning? (…besides Big Picture Classes?) A current favorite learning resource for me is TED. What is TED you ask?
"TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. "
TED Talks has thousands of "riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world"
Want to be happier? Stay in the moment: Matt Killingsworth
Your body language shapes who you are: Amy Cuddy
(Re) touching lives through photos: Becci Manson
Did you find any of thse inspiring? If so which one?
