Hello everyone, you need to know that we have Picture Winter available as a self-paced class. I peeked at Tracey Clark's daily emails and her classroom and know that you will love it. I get to share one of her daily prompts to give you a flavor of what is in her class.
"The gesture of hands can be as expressive as facial expressions. When you observe people's hands, you can tell so much about who they are and how they feel. Hands can hold, reach out, cup, grab, caress. They can express, gesture, emphasize, communicate. Hands can do and say almost anything.
Today, use a hand or hands as the subject of your shot; yours or someone else's (or both).
Note: If you're not shooting hands to communicate an emotion, you can shoot to tell a story of that person. This shot speaks volumes about my daughter. Chipped nail polish is one of her signature looks. My rough and tumble princess plays like she means it and her hands show it. Today's challenge encourages you to either capture an emotion, or capture a little about the person whose hands can speak for them."
Hope you had a wonderful celebration. We are all looking forward to a full year here at Big Picture and welcome you to join us in our creative endeavors.
One of our year long classes is One Little Word taught by Ali Edwards. Find out what words other BPC members have chosen, check out the One Little Word 2012 blog hop links below.
For me, this quote sums it up. To trust the treasure I am looking for is hidden in the ground on which I stand.
"It is not just waiting until something happens over which we have no control: the arrival of the bus, the end of the rain, the return of a friend, the resolution of a conflict.
Patience is not waiting passively until someone else does something. Patience asks us to live the moment to the fullest, to be completely present to the moment, to taste the here and now, to be where we are. When we are impatient, we try to get away from where we are. We behave as if the real thing will happen tomorrow, later, and somewhere else. Be patient and trust that the treasure you are looking for is hidden in the ground on which you stand."

When I do something I love, I feel that “I am in line with the divine”—whether it is teaching, writing, hugging my children, or preparing a meal—they become a joyful expression, as they are all things I love to do.
Do you spend time doing things you love to do? Today, spend time doing something that you LOVE to do. Pay attention to how that makes you feel. Then notice how your good vibrations ripple out to everyone you are near.

How might you spend twenty minutes during your day? Sitting in traffic. Waiting for your dinner to cook. Listening to a co-worker expand on an idea. Reading a bedtime story to your child. Running a meeting. Folding laundry. Showering, dressing. As mothers, life might find us doing any of these activities. In fact, chances are we are doing more than one of them at the same time, hurrying, rushing.
Life as a mother is busy whether we work in or outside the home. And if we allow this fragmented feeling to take hold of us, everything suffers: our health, our happiness, the natural joy of being a mom. By trying to be everything to everybody all of the time—eventually something’s got to give. Often it’s an illness, crisis, depression, or reaching a “breaking point” that forces us to surrender.
By living in a perpetual state of “doing” we create two problems, each of which leaves us with that familiar, nauseating “I can’t do it all!” feeling. Trying to do it all, at the same time, creates a sense of constant chaos in our lives and for those around us. And the effects are even more far-reaching. This sort of crazed multi-tasking also means that we are not fully aware as we go through our days.
Instead of feeling calm and powerful we only react to the world, dizzily spinning around in a revolving door instead of making our own choices and creating our own reality. The good news is that each of us holds the possibility within us that any moment can become a peaceful moment.

It’s kind of like magic. My body. It knows what to do, when given half a chance. It fights off invaders, rebuilds, purifies, produces elixirs of hormones capable of things such as making me happy or creating a baby; it turns the air I breath into the perfect amount of oxygen and gets rid of the unwanted carbon dioxide, pumps purified blood to my organs, and the list goes on.
Magically this all happens“behind the scenes.”
My body does all of this without my thinking consciously about it or commanding it to—and it is something even I take for granted. Until something goes wrong, that is, and I am forced to decode what happened, what caused a kink in this effortless, smart system.
