Using Maps to Document Vacations

Traveling and trips can be so much fun!  If you are like us here at Big Picture Classes, we love to collect tons of trip memorabilia along the way.  Sometimes all of the "stuff" can become overwhelming! Today, Jenni Hufford is here to share some of her secrets for saving AND using trip memorabilia!

One of my favorite tips when visiting any Disney Theme Park (or any vacation) is to grab a handful of maps. Maps don’t only tell you where you are going within the parks, but they are also a great starting point when you are ready to document your experience.

I love including maps in my albums. You can add an entire map, place them in pocket pages, or even add photos to the map as I did in this layout.

For this layout I added the map of the Magic Kingdom and highlighted six different photos from different rides and attractions we experienced within the day.

I printed each photo either as a 2x3 or 1.5 x 2 sized photo. I then punched each photo with my 1.5” or 1.25” circle punch and layered the circle photo with kraft paper.

I placed each photo near each attraction on the map and began to layer labels, stickers, and the appropriate number of how we visited the attraction. I couldn’t include EVERY photo from attractions visited that day, so I simply chose our favorite rides and/or places that wouldn’t be on top of each other on the map. (we took many photos near the Castle, at the Carousel, and Fantasyland— but including only these photos would not offer a well balanced layout). Next, I looked back at my photos and added the time each photo was taken on the label. I like seeing how our day took place based on route and time.

Finally, I added to punched black circles as my mouse ears to the “LOVE” sentiment. You have to include mouse ears somewhere!

I hope you join me for more tips and tricks for Disney or Theme Park Vacations in my class, Document the Magic. This summer Big Picture Classes will release the second installment of Document the Magic! In this class I will show you different ideas (and more tips on using maps) and how to put your Disney vacation together into and album you will cherish forever!
